The NSW government are forcing 7000 school cleaners to reapply for their own jobs – with no guarantee that they'll be given their job back.
Not only does this mean every cleaner’s job is at risk, but it means cleaners lose entitlements like sick leave which they’ve built up over years of service to the school – despite the fact that they’ll be performing the same job, at the same school.
There’s no hours guarantee either – school cleaners are facing unfair hours cuts they can't afford, and less cleaning hours means dirtier classrooms and unsafe schools. With a fast-growing student population and crowded public schools, this is not the time for cuts to cleaning hours and jobs.
School cleaners are a vital part of the school community, keeping learning spaces and play areas hygienic and safe for your children.
